この皮膚センサーは、運転者の皮膚を検査して酔っているかどうかを判断し、酔っていれば車を発進させないようにする。

もし車が動き出さないとしたら、それはあなたが運転できないほど酒を飲んでいるからだ――ハンドルまたはグローブに取り付けて、運転者の皮膚を検査して飲酒量を判断する600ドルのセンサーはこの前提の下に動作する。

「コスト上の理由から、自動車業界がこれを受け入れられる状態にあるという確信が私にはない。それに運転者側も受け入れる態勢にならないだろう。彼らの大半は飲酒運転をしないからだ。われわれはまだそうした段階には達していない」
これは、アメリカでの話ですが、日本のメーカーには、
ぜひこういう飲酒運転防止機能付きの車を開発してほしいですね。
確かにコスト的に現状きつかもしれないが、飲酒運転による事故を防止するためには将来的に必ず必要な機能だと思う。
最近、飲酒運転を防止するために罰則が厳しくなったが、
やはり飲んで運転する人は必ずいるわけで、
人間側でルールを守ることができないならば、
機械（車）側でルールを取り入れるしかないですね。
ETCの普及を国が後押ししたように、
国とメーカーが一体となってこの機能もぜひ取り入れてほしいところです。
